Promoting Restorative Justice for Children

2013 - Representante Especial del Secretario General sobre Violencia contra los Niños
The document entitled "Promoting Restorative Justice for Children" was issued by the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence against Children in 2013.
This report examines the potential of restorative justice programmes to facilitate conflict resolution and provide appropriate protection to children. This applies to the justice system, whether children are victims, offenders or witnesses, but it also applies in a range of other contexts, including at school, in residential care units, in social welfare settings and in the community. It emphasises that restorative justice represents a paradigm shift in how justice for children and young people is perceived in the majority of societies around the world. Building upon experiences, the report makes recommendations on crucial steps to achieve this goal.
